Description of the works
The City of Luxembourg will be carrying out infrastructure upgrade works in Rue Jean-François Gangler, Rue Nic Martha, and Place Jeanne d’Arc.
The works will be undertaken in collaboration with the following City departments:
- VDL – Service Voirie (Department of Streets): Road superstructure upgrade works on all streets, including the replacement of carriage-way and pavement formwork, the demarcation of on-street parking spaces, and the upgrade of pedestrian crossings.
- VDL – Service Eaux (Water Department): Replacement and upgrade of the water mains, and upgrade of private connections to bring them into compliance with existing standards. Installation of a permanent water-flow measurement system as part of the rollout of a smart municipal drinking-water supply system.
- VDL – Service Éclairage public (Public Lighting Department): Renewal and extension of the public lighting system. Upgrade of public lighting power-supply and ICT cabinets. Installation of special lighting at pedestrian crossings to improve visibility of pedestrians.
- VDL – Canalisation (Sewer Department): Works to replace aging mixed-water drainage lines (dating back to 1948 and 1953) and increase hydraulic capacity. Extension of the existing retention line from alongside the school in Rue Demy Schlechter to Rue Nicolas Martha, to increase storage volume.
- VDL – Service Technologies de l'information et de la communication (TIC) (ICT Department): Extension and upgrade of Luxembourg City's fibre-optic network and upgrade of its Wi-Fi network.
- Creos Luxembourg SA Electricité: Replacement and extension of the aging low-voltage network. Replacement of home electrical grid connections.
- Creos Luxembourg SA Gaz: Replacement of the aging low-pressure network. Replacement of home connections with valves installed under the pavement and "Gas-STOP" safety valves at the connection with the principal gas main.
- Post Luxembourg: Extension and/or upgrade of the ultra-high-speed fibre-optic broadband network as part of the completion of the FTTH (Fibre To The Home) project.

Traffic information
For vehicular traffic
Rue Nic Martha (between Rue Demy Schlechter and Place Jeanne d’Arc): Closed to traffic throughout the works.
Rue Jean-François Gangler: Closed to traffic during the works, except for local residents, deliveries, and access to the multi-use sports hall. While works are being carried out simultaneously on the section between Rue Tony Dutreux and Place Jeanne d’Arc, a 3.5-meter-wide traffic lane will be kept open.
Rue Nic Martha (between Rue Tony Dutreux and Place Jeanne d’Arc): Closed to traffic during the works, except for local residents and deliveries.
Place Jeanne d’Arc: During the works, half of the available parking spaces will remain accessible.
Pedestrian access and access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works. Vehicular access to private properties will be maintained insofar as technically feasible.
For businesses and deliveries
The City of Luxembourg will strive to ensure access for deliveries to local businesses during the works.
Changes to traffic flows will be implemented as the works progress. Appropriate signage will be put in place by the Service Circulation (Traffic Department). The City of Luxembourg thanks local residents, businesses and road users for their understanding and regrets any inconvenience that the works may cause.
For public transport users
While the works in Rue Nic Martha are ongoing, the bus stop at Place Jeanne d’Arc will be relocated to the even-number side of Rue Jean François Gangler, near the car park.

Your home utility connections
- During the works, City representatives and private contractors will visit residents' homes.
- The purpose of the visit is to assess the condition of your existing connections.
- If you wish to have your existing connections replaced, please tell the City representatives when they visit your home.

Stay informed
To make life easier for residents while these works are being carried out, the City of Luxembourg has implemented a series of measures, including the option to attend work-site meetings. Residents affected by the works may attend these meetings to obtain additional information about the progress of the works, and to air any grievances they may have. Please contact the works coordinator, or one of the construction mediators.
