Getting around the city

By car
Residential parking permit
If you live in Luxembourg City and own a car, you are entitled to a permit enabling you to park for free in your parking zone.

Register, exchange, or convert a foreign driver's license
If you have a driver's license that was issued in a country outside the European Economic Area (EEA), you must exchange it for a Luxembourg driver's license within one year of moving to Luxembourg. You can submit your application to the SNCA as soon as you are registered in Luxembourg.
Please note: You can only exchange your driver's license after 185 days of actual residence in Luxembourg.

Families, children and young people
Chèque-Service Accueil
The childcare service voucher scheme (chèque-service accueil – CSA) grants parents reduced rates for non-formal education and childcare services, depending on availability. The amount of the state contribution (CSA amount) and the amount of the parents' financial contribution are calculated on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the parents' income, the number of children in the household, and the number of hours of non-formal education that the child is enrolled for. The CSA amount is paid to the service provider.
Enrolling your child in school
Every child who reaches the age of 4 by 1 September must begin attending school that same year. Municipal schools are free of charge for children who live in Luxembourg City.
