Political life

The municipal council is elected for a six-year term by Luxembourg City's residents and rules on all matters concerning the interests of the city and its residents. The college of the mayor and aldermen (collège des bourgmestre et échevins) is the City of Luxembourg's executive and administrative body. The offices of the mayor and the aldermen, the meeting room of the municipal council and the wedding room are all located in Luxembourg City Hall.

The municipal council is composed of 27 councillors and rules on all matters pertaining to the interests of the City of Luxembourg and its residents.

Municipal council committees deliberate and advise on matters referred to them, in view of their respective areas of expertise, for the municipal council, the college of aldermen and the mayor.

The City's policy priorities are urban development, the environment, housing, urban transport, trade, education and social cohesion, social integration and equality, and safety.
