Project description

The City of Luxembourg will be carrying out infrastructure work in Rue de Beggen. The work will be carried out in collaboration with the following City departments:

VDL – Service Voirie (Department of Streets)

  • Minor upgrade work on the superstructure (to bring pedestrian crossings and bus stops into compliance for people with reduced mobility; pavement repairs).

VDL – Service Eaux (Water Department)

  • Complete replacement of the water main, and replacement of deteriorated home connections.

VDL – Service Éclairage public (Public Lighting Department)

  • Upgrade of public lighting and ICT cabinets to bring them into compliance. Installation of special lighting at pedestrian crossings to improve visibility of pedestrians. Installation of a new "Remote management" network.

VDL – Service Canalisation (Sewer Department)

  • Replacement of the deteriorated rainwater and wastewater drains along the entire length of the worksite for hydraulic reasons. Replacement of deteriorated home connections.

VDL – Service Circulation (Traffic Department)

  • Replacement of traffic detector loops, and traffic light components, including posts, visors and pedestrian signals.

VDL – Service TIC) (ICT Department)

  • Extension and upgrade of Luxembourg City's fibre-optic network, and extension of its Wi-Fi network.

Creos Luxembourg SA Electricité

  • Replacement and upgrade of the deteriorated low- and medium-voltage power network. Replacement of home connections. Laying of spare cable ducts for future building connections.

Creos Luxembourg SA Gaz

  • Complete replacement of the deteriorated low-pressure gas mains. Replacement of home gas connections, with valves set in the pavement and "Gas-STOP" emergency shut-off valves after the connection with the gas main.

Post Luxembourg

  • Extension of Luxembourg City's ultra high-speed fibre-optic broadband network as part of the FTTH ("Fibre To The Home") project. Replacement of home connections for the extension of the fibre optic network. Laying of multi-duct conduits under the roadway (along the transport route).

National Roads Administration (Administration des Ponts et Chaussées)

  • Replacement of public lighting, including lampposts.

Works schedule

Commencement of works: June 2025

Expected duration of the works: 520 working days

Planned completion: autumn 2027

Traffic information

WHAT IS THE CURRENT TRAFFIC SITUATION?

For vehicular traffic:

Rue de Beggen will remain open to two-way traffic for the entire duration of the works. Works that do not allow for two-way traffic (such as the installation of traffic lights) will be carried out on weekends or at night.

Pedestrian access and access for emergency services will be guaranteed throughout the duration of the works. Vehicular access to private properties will be maintained for as long as the works permit.

For businesses and deliveries:

The City of Luxembourg will try to ensure access for deliveries to local businesses throughout the duration of the works.

Changes to traffic flows will be implemented as the works progress. Appropriate signage will be put in place by the City's Service Circulation. The City of Luxembourg thanks local residents, businesses and road users for their understanding and regrets any inconvenience that the works may cause.

For public transport users:

As traffic will continue to run in both directions, buses will operate a regular service. However, please be aware that there may be delays. For information on changes to bus schedules, please contact the Service Autobus (Bus Department) on 4796-2975.

Your home utility connections

  • During the works, representatives from the various City departments and private contractors will visit residents' homes.
  • During these visits, your existing connections will be inspected.
  • If you wish to have your existing connections replaced, please let the City representatives know when they visit your home.

Stay informed

To make life easier for residents while these works are being carried out, the City of Luxembourg has implemented a series of measures, including the option for residents to attend work-site meetings. Residents affected by the works may attend these meetings to obtain additional information about the progress of the works and air any grievances they may have. Please contact the works coordinator or one of the construction mediators.

Work-site meetings will be held every Thursday at 9:30.
