Project description

The City will be carrying out infrastructure work on Rue Albert Calmes, Rue Nicolas Margue, Rue Nicolas Majerus and Rue Alphonse Rupprecht. The work will be carried out in collaboration with the following departments:

The work will be carried out in collaboration with the following departments:

  • VDL – Service Canalisation (Sewer Department): Flow improvement in the existing sewers on Rue de la Barrière towards Rue de Trèves. Repair of leaks in certain existing pipes on Rue Albert Calmes.
  • VDL – Service Eaux (Water Department): Replacement and upgrade of the water mains, and upgrade of private connections to bring them into compliance with existing requirements.
  • VDL – Service Éclairage public (Public Lighting Department):  Replacement and upgrade of the public lighting system, and replacement of street lamps. Refit of public lighting and ICT cabinets to bring them up to code. Installation of special lighting at pedestrian crossings to improve visibility of pedestrians.
  • VDL – Service TIC (ICT Department) (Fibre optics):  Extension and upgrade of Luxembourg City's fibre-optic network and upgrade of its Wi-Fi network.
  • VDL – Service Voirie (Department of Streets): Partial replacement of the road subgrade. Replacement of a number of storm drains, kerbs and paving stones. Marking of the parking strip with a high-performance surface dressing. Overhaul of the pedestrian crossing at the intersection with Rue de Trèves to bring it up to code for people with reduced mobility.
  • Creos-Électricité: Replacement and upgrade of the deteriorated low- and high-voltage power network. Replacement of home utility connections. Upgrade of public lighting connections and Creos electrical grids with VDL electric metre boxes.
  • Creos-Gaz: Replacement of the deteriorated low pressure network. Replacement of the private connections with valves under the pavement.
  • Post Technologies: Extension of the ultra high-speed fibre-optic broadband network as part of the completion of the FTTH ("Fibre To The Home") project.

Works schedule

Commencement of work: Summer 2025

Expected duration of the works: 250 working days

Planned completion: autumn 2026

Traffic information

For vehicular traffic

A roadway that is at least 3.5 m wide will be maintained at all times.

Pedestrian access and access for emergency services will also be guaranteed throughout the duration of the works. Vehicular access to private property will be maintained as long as physically possible.

For businesses and deliveries

The City of Luxembourg will try to ensure access for deliveries to local businesses throughout the duration of the works.

Changes to traffic flows will be implemented as the works progress. Appropriate signage will be put in place by the Service Circulation (Traffic Depatment). The City of Luxembourg thanks local residents, businesses and road users for their understanding and regrets any inconvenience that the works may cause.

No changes.

Your home utility connections

  • As part of the construction project, City representatives and private contractors will visit residents' homes.
  • They will be assessing the condition of their existing connections.
  • If you wish to have your existing connections replaced, please inform the City representatives during this on-site inspection.

Stay informed

To make life easier for residents while these works are being carried out, the City of Luxembourg has implemented a series of measures, including the option to participate in meetings regarding the progress of the work. Residents affected by the works may participate in these meetings to obtain additional information about the project's progress and air any grievances they may have. Please contact the works coordinator or one of the construction mediators.
