Project description
The City of Luxembourg will be carrying out infrastructure upgrade works in Rue Cents. The works will be undertaken in collaboration with the following City departments:
- VDL – Service Voirie (Department of Streets): Upgrade of bus stops to bring them into compliance with accessibility standards for people with reduced mobility. Upgrade of pedestrian crossings to bring them into compliance with accessibility standards for people with reduced mobility.
- VDL – Service Eaux (Water Department): Replacement and upgrade of the water mains, and upgrade of private connections to bring them into compliance with existing standards. Laying of a new water supply line to increase the capacity of the water supply network.
- VDL – Service Éclairage public (Public Lighting Department): Replacement and upgrade of the public lighting system, and replacement of street lights. Upgrade of public lighting power-supply and ICT cabinets. Installation of special lighting at pedestrian crossings to improve visibility of pedestrians.
- VDL – Service Canalisation (Sewer Department): Laying of rainwater drainage lines ahead of the implementation of the "Klouschtergaart" and "Op der Heed" PAPs (Plans d'aménagement particulier – special development plans).
- VDL – Service TIC (ICT Department): Extension and upgrade of Luxembourg City's fibre-optic network, and extension of its Wi-Fi network.
- Creos Luxembourg SA Electricité: Replacement and extension of the low- and medium-voltage networks, which are falling into disrepair. Replacement of home electrical grid connections. Upgrade of public lighting connections and Creos electrical grids with VDL electric metre boxes.
- Creos Luxembourg SA Gaz: Replacement of the low pressure network, which is falling into disrepair. Replacement of home connections with valves installed under the pavement and "Gas-STOP" safety valves at the connection with the principal gas main.
- Post Luxembourg: Extension of the ultra high-speed fibre-optic broadband network as part of the completion of the FTTH (Fibre To The Home) project.
Works schedule
- Commencement of works: September 2025
- Expected duration of works: 265 working days
- Planned completion: winter 2026
Traffic information
Current traffic situation
For vehicular traffic:
In streets affected by the works, a single-lane, two-way traffic configuration will be maintained for the entire duration of the works. Pedestrian access and access for emergency services will be maintained for the entire duration of the works. Vehicular access to private properties will be maintained insofar as technically feasible.
For businesses and deliveries:
The City of Luxembourg will try to ensure access for deliveries to local businesses for the entire duration of the works.
Changes to traffic flows will be implemented as the works progress. Appropriate signage will be put in place by the Service Circulation (Traffic Department).
For public transport users:
No changes
Your home utility connections
- During the works, City representatives and private contractors will visit residents' homes.
- The purpose of the visit is to assess the condition of your existing connections.
- If you wish to have your existing connections replaced, please tell the City representatives when they visit your home.

Stay informed
To make life easier for residents while these works are being carried out, the City of Luxembourg has implemented a series of measures, including the option to participate in meetings regarding the progress of the work. Residents affected by the works may participate in these meetings to obtain additional information about the project's progress and air any grievances they may have. Please contact the works coordinator, or one of the construction mediators.
