Project description
Upgrade works will be carried out in Rue Mohrfels. The works will be undertaken in collaboration with the following City departments:
- VDL – Service Voirie (Department of Streets): Redevelopment of the 20 km/h zone in Rue Mohrfels, with renewal of the roadway superstructure and pavements.
- VDL – Service Eaux (Water Department): Upgrade of private connections to bring them into compliance with existing requirements.
- VDL – Service Éclairage public (Public Lighting Department): Replacement and upgrade of the public lighting system, and replacement of street lamps. Refit of public lighting and ICT cabinets to bring them up to code. Installation of a new "Remote management" network.
- VDL – Service Canalisation (Sewer Department): Replacement of all existing manhole covers with VDL logo covers.
- VDL – Service TIC (ICT Department): Extension and upgrade of Luxembourg City's fibre-optic network, and extension of its Wi-Fi network.
- Creos Luxembourg SA Électricité: Replacement and upgrade of the deteriorated low- and high-voltage power network. Replacement of home electrical grid connections. Upgrade of public lighting connections and Creos electrical grids with VDL electric metre boxes.
- Creos S.A., Division Gaz: Replacement of home connections with valves installed under the pavement and "Gas-STOP" safety valves at the connection with the principal gas main.
- Post Luxembourg: Extension of the ultra high-speed fibre-optic broadband network as part of the completion of the FTTH ("Fibre To The Home") project.
- Eltrona: Replacement and upgrade of the grid.
Works schedule
Commencement of works: March 2026
Planned completion: Spring 2027
Traffic information
For vehicular traffic:
The affected sections will be gradually closed off to traffic as the project progresses. For the duration of these works, the areas being worked on will be closed to traffic. Pedestrian access and access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works. Vehicular access to private properties will be maintained insofar as technically feasible.
For businesses and deliveries:
The City of Luxembourg will try to ensure access for deliveries to local businesses for the entire duration of the works. Changes to traffic flows will be implemented as the works progress. Appropriate signage will be put in place by the City's <em>Service Circulation</em> (Traffic Department). The City of Luxembourg thanks local residents, businesses and road users for their understanding and regrets any inconvenience that the works may cause.
Your home utility connections
- During the works, representatives from the City of Luxembourg, and from private contractors involved in the works, will visit residents' homes.
- They will be assessing the condition of their existing connections.
- If you wish to have your existing connections replaced, please inform the City representatives during this on-site inspection.

Stay informed
To make life easier for residents while these works are being carried out, the City of Luxembourg has implemented a series of measures, including the option to participate in meetings regarding the progress of the work. Residents affected by the works may participate in these meetings to obtain additional information about the project's progress and air any grievances they may have. Please contact the works coordinator, or one of the construction mediators.
