Traffic
As in previous years, people will still be able to get around Luxembourg City on marathon day. The City's municipal departments and the Grand Ducal Police have made arrangements to ensure that residents and spectators can travel to and from all areas along the marathon route.
The sections of road on the marathon route will be reserved for runners during the race, and reopened to traffic after the last runner has passed. All streets outside the areas affected by the event will remain open to traffic. Moreover, 40 crossing points will be set up at strategic locations along the race route so that motorists can get around the city. Crossing times will be coordinated, and will depend on the progress of the race.
To ensure that everyone who may be affected by the race has all the information they need, the City of Luxembourg will be distributing a pamphlet to all households in the capital, with details on the marathon route, changes in traffic and parking, and public transport options, including the free shuttle service.
Public transport
AVL bus lines
All regular AVL lines will operate according to their normal schedule until around 18:00 (16:00 for Limpertsberg and the Kirchberg plateau). From 18:00, regular bus connections between Luxembourg Central Station and the city centre will be suspended and the tram service will provide connections between Place Emile Hamilius and Luxembourg Central Station.
Tram service
The tram will run on an extended schedule along the entire line (last departure from "Luxexpo": 2:30 / last departure from "Stadion": 2:25), except
- between 18:40 and 19:30, when it will not run between Luxexpo and Luxembourg Airport
- between 19:10 and 21:20, when it will not run between " Faïencerie" and "Theater"; a temporary walkway will be erected so that pedestrians can cross the race route.
More information at www.luxtram.lu
AVL personnel will be on hand at all key locations to provide guidance and information on changes to bus and tram services.
To get into and around the city on the day of the marathon, the City of Luxembourg recommends using the public transport system if possible.
