The Law of 9 June 2022 (as amended) on waste prohibits the collection or treatment of organic and green waste together with plastic materials – biodegradable or otherwise. Consequently, plastic bags – including so-called biodegradable plastic bags – may not be used to collect organic waste.

Accepted

Leftovers (cooked and uncooked), fruit, vegetables, potatoes, coffee grounds, teabags, bread, food that is spoiled or past its use-by date, meat, fish, etc.

To avoid liquid gathering at the bottom of your bin/transfer container: Newspaper page, paper bags (only if used to contain organic waste).

Not accepted

Bags, packaging and other items made of biodegradable plastic

Household waste, cigarette butts, fats and oils, sweepings, ash and coal, cat litter, etc.

Tampons and sanitary pads, towels, tissues, diapers, etc.

Organic waste is collected from your home once a week using the brown bins.

Important note on waste recipients
For curbside collections, only the special bins that are provided by the City may be used. No other containers will be emptied or collected.
