Project description
The City will be carrying out infrastructure works on Rue du Nord in Ville Haute. The works will be undertaken in collaboration with the following City departments:
- VDL – Service Voirie (Department of Streets): Complete upgrade of the road superstructure on Rue du Nord.
- VDL – Service Eaux (Water Department): Replacement and upgrade of the main network. Replacement of home electrical grid connections. Installation of a collection chamber and water fountain.
- VDL – Service Éclairage public (Public Lighting Department): Replacement and upgrade of the public lighting system. Upgrade of electrical cabinets to bring them up to code.
- VDL – Service TIC (ITC Department): Upgrade and extension of Luxembourg City's fibre-optic network. Extension of the City's Wi-Fi network.
- Creos S.A. Division Électricité: Replacement and upgrade of the low and medium-voltage grid. Upgrade of the public lighting networks of the City of Luxembourg to bring them up to code. Replacement of home utility connections.
- Creos S.A., Division Gaz: Replacement of deteriorated home connections and valves under the pavements.
- POST Technologies: Laying of backup conduits to upgrade of the fibre optic network.
Works schedule
Commencement of work: March 2026
Expected duration of works: 230 working days
Planned completion: Summer 2027
Traffic information
For vehicular traffic:
<em>Rue du Nord</em> will be gradually closed off to traffic as the project progresses.
Pedestrian access and access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works. Vehicular access to private properties will be maintained insofar as technically feasible.
For businesses and deliveries:
The City of Luxembourg will try to ensure access for deliveries to local businesses for the entire duration of the works, either from the side leading to <em>Côte d'Eich</em> or <em>Rue du Palais de justice</em>.
As construction progresses, there will be changes to traffic flow in this area. Appropriate signage will be put in place by the City's <em>Service Circulation</em> (Traffic Department). The City of Luxembourg thanks local residents, businesses and road users for their understanding and regrets any inconvenience that the works may cause.

How long will the work take?
Work will begin in March 2026. The work is expected to be completed by early 2027.
Your home utility connections
- During the works, representatives from the City of Luxembourg, and from private contractors involved in the works, will visit residents' homes.
- They will be assessing the condition of their existing connections.
- If you wish to have your existing connections replaced, please inform the City representatives during this on-site inspection.

Stay informed
To make life easier for residents while these works are being carried out, the City of Luxembourg has implemented a series of measures, including the option to participate in meetings regarding the progress of the work. Residents affected by the works may participate in these meetings to obtain additional information about the project's progress and air any grievances they may have. Please contact the works coordinator, or one of the construction mediators.
