Why choose to repair?

The total energy needs of an (electrical) appliance are not limited to the energy required for its use; it includes the energy needed all throughout its life cycle, from the extraction of raw materials and manufacturing (embodied energy), to its use and end-of-life recycling or destruction. New appliances are generally more energy efficient, but when taking into account the complete life cycle of an appliance, it is often more sustainable to repair your household electronics than to replace them.
