Climate action

The City of Luxembourg's Repair Café initiative is part of its wider programme to combat climate change. Volunteers with the knowledge and skills to repair damaged or broken items (clothes, small electrical appliances, bikes, toys, jewellery, small items of furniture, etc.) are on hand to help visitors give their treasured possessions a new lease on life. Visitors are encouraged to assist the repairers, who will be more than happy to share their know-how with them.

Learn new things, save money and do something for the environment

As an educational initiative, "Repair Cafés" seek to encourage visitors to acquire the skills required to recondition household items that need minor repairs, so as to reduce waste, new purchases and, consequently, our carbon footprint. From a financial point of view, repairing rather than buying also saves money. Beyond their practical utility, Repair Cafés are also places where people can meet, socialise and share their knowledge.

Dates, times and venues

Repair Cafés are held several times a year.

Hall Victor Hugo.

Programme

The Harmonie Municipale Limpertsberg (Limpertsberg Municipal Concert Band) will be providing musical entertainment. A gratifierai – or swap meet – will also be running all day long. To participate in the gratifierai, simply drop off items you no longer use – without expecting anything in return. People can then take any items that catch their fancy, for free. They can leave something in return if they wish, but are not required to do so. It is not really a barter system, because there is not necessarily a reciprocal exchange of items. Members of the City of Luxembourg's community gardens community will also be running a repa-nature workshop to teach interested participants how to make honey-flower seed balls. Fairtrade, organic and locally produced refreshments will be available for volunteers and guests alike.

Schluechthaus

Some of these events will take place at the Schluechthaus.
