Background
The project to build four two-family houses in Rue des Celtes is an offshoot of the "Baulücken III" competition – a competition launched by the City of Luxembourg to select proposals to design and build affordable rental and for-purchase housing on eight plots of City-owned land.
It illustrates the City's active involvement in providing residents with a wide range of modern, affordable, urban housing options. The "Baulücken III" competition covers a total of 71 housing units, including 36 houses and 35 apartments.
Project overview
The four two-family houses are located in Rue Celtes in Merl, and comprise eight units of various sizes, ranging from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom duplexes.
The houses have been designed to blend in seamlessly with the district's residential landscape, and all four come with private gardens, terraces or balconies, garages, and storage spaces for bicycles. The units may be rented out separately, or as multi-unit groupings to meet the needs of large families. The project also provided for green roofs, solar installations, and dual-flow heat-recovery ventilation systems.
Key dates
The final project was approved by the Municipal Council on 1 March 2021. Works commenced on 16 May 2022, and the topping-out ceremony was held on 8 February 2023.
Official opening: 13 October 2025
