Project description

The City will be carrying out infrastructure works on Rue Jean l'Aveugle and Rue Alfred de Musset in Limpertsberg. The works will be undertaken in collaboration with the following City departments:

  • VDL – Service Voirie (Department of Streets): Replacement of the street surface infrastructure. Parking bays, tree pits, upgrade of pedestrian crossings to bring them into compliance with accessibility standards for people with reduced mobility.
  • VDL – Service Canalisation (Sewer Department): Replacement of the rainwater and wastewater drains.
  • VDL – Service Eaux (Water Department): Complete replacement of the principal gas main and replacement of home utility connections that have deteriorated.
  • VDL – Service Éclairage public (Public Lighting Department): Replacement and upgrade of the public lighting system, and replacement of street lights. Installation of special lighting at pedestrian crossings to improve visibility of pedestrians.
  • VDL – Service TIC (ICT Deparment): Extension and upgrade of Luxembourg City's fibre-optic network, and extension of its Wi-Fi network. Refit ITC cabinets to bring them up to code.
  • Creos S.A. Division Électricité: Replacement and extension of the deteriorated low-voltage power network. Replacement of home electrical grid connections. Upgrade of public lighting connections and Creos electrical grids with VDL electric metre boxes.
  • Creos S.A., Division Gaz: Replacement of the deteriorated low-pressure network. Replacement of home utility connections.
  • POST Technologies: Replacement of old cables with ultra high-speed fibre-optic ones, and replacement of home utility connections.

Works schedule

Commencement of work: September 2026

Expected duration of the works:310 working days

Planned completion: Spring 2028

Traffic information

For vehicular traffic:

The affected sections will be gradually closed off to traffic as the works progress. Pedestrian access and access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works. Vehicular access to private properties will be maintained insofar as technically feasible.

For businesses and deliveries:

The City of Luxembourg will strive to ensure access for deliveries to local businesses for the entire duration of the works.

As construction progresses, there will be changes to the flow of traffic in this area. Appropriate signage will be put in place by the City's <em>Service Circulation</em> (Traffic Department). The City of Luxembourg thanks local residents, businesses and road users for their understanding and regrets any inconvenience that the works may cause.

Works to be performed:

In an initial phase, temporary water mains will be laid in Rue Jean l'Aveugle and Rue Alfred de Musset, on both the odd and even sides of the street.

During phases 2 to 4 on three sections: installation of wastewater and storm drains; installation of water and gas mains; installation of dry utility networks; street surface work.

Your home utility connections

  • During the works, representatives from the City of Luxembourg, and from private contractors involved in the works, will visit residents' homes.
  • The purpose of the visit is to assess the condition of your existing connections.
  • If you wish to have your existing connections replaced, please tell the City representatives when they visit your home.

Stay informed

To make life easier for residents once the project gets underway, the City of Luxembourg will put in place a series of measures, including giving residents the possibility to participate in on-site construction meetings (by appointment only). Residents affected by the works may participate in these meetings to obtain additional information about the project's progress and air any grievances they may have. Please contact the works coordinator, or one of the construction mediators.
