Overview

Committed to protecting biodiversity, the City does everything in its power to ensure good quality of life in the urban environment. In addition to making our neighbourhoods more attractive, trees play a key role in purifying the air and reducing heat during the summer months, thanks to the shade provided by their dense crowns. They also provide essential shelter to many species of animals.

The 100+ page brochure, which has been available since summer 2024, offers a comprehensive overview of the importance of trees in the city, and how they are managed. It traces the history of the parks, which were the exclusive preserve of the nobility until the 18th century, and details the work of the Service Parcs (Parks Department), which is responsible for maintaining the city's green spaces and trees.

The brochure also provides information on the tree register, which contains precise data such as location, species, size and year of planting, and management guidelines based on recognised green space management standards, with an emphasis on safety and biology. Finally, a section is devoted to "climate trees", which are better suited to the changing weather conditions associated with global warming.
