Christmas decoration competition
The Luxembourg City Business Association (Union Commerciale de la Ville de Luxembourg) and the City of Luxembourg have teamed up to organise the "Windows of Wonder" Christmas shop-window decoration competition, which will be running from 1 to 31 December 2025. The idea behind the competition is to encourage retailers across Luxembourg City's 24 districts to get involved in creating the magical atmosphere of Christmas by decorating their shopwindows for the holiday season.
Participating retailers' shopwindow decorations will be assessed by a panel of judges against specific criteria, which include overall aesthetic appeal, technical execution, originality and creativity, and how products are incorporated into the decor. The panel will then select three joint winners, each of whom will be awarded a €2,000 grant offered by the City of Luxembourg.
Voting
From 9 to 31 December 2025, the public will be able to vote on their favourite shopwindow on www.concours-cityshopping.lu. The retailer whose window receives the most votes will be awarded €2,000. In addition, all voters will be eligible for entry in a random draw, with a chance to win a €200 gift voucher.

Courses in shop window design
Once again this year, the City will also be offering free courses in Christmas shopwindow design to help Luxembourg City retailers make the most of their holiday-season product presentations and customer communications.
Basic course
The basic shopwindow design course is scheduled to take place on 3 November 2025. In this course, participants will learn the basics of visual merchandising. They will learn how to use their products to tell a story that resonates with their customers, incorporate holiday-time merchandising conventions, and make the most of the materials at their disposal. At the end of the workshop, the participants will be given a creative exercise that will entail creating a large Christmas wreath.
Advanced course
The advanced Christmas shopwindow design course will be run over two sessions, the first of which is on 5 November and the second on 10 November 2025. In this course, participants will be given a chance to hone their creative processes through the use of tools such as Pinterest, mood boards, and artificial intelligence. Real-life case studies will also be analysed to pinpoint actual shopwindows' strengths and weaknesses. At the end of the course, there will be a hands-on workshop to create a reusable Christmas tree.
