Background
As the district of Cents expands, the City has built a new school and sports complex at the southern end of the elementary school. The project required the demolition of the old sports hall and swimming pool, which dated back to the 1960s, making way for a modern complex comprising school and sports facilities, and a public car park.
Project overview
The campus includes an extension of the elementary school, a sports centre, a swimming pool, an underground car park with 95 spaces, and a new public square with a playground, creating a true gathering place for the local population.
The school extension houses classrooms for early learning and preschool levels, a foyer scolaire, a multi-purpose room, a library and a teaching kitchen. The sports centre features a multipurpose hall that can be divided into three courts with bleachers, a 25-metre pool with an adjustable depth, a weight room and a dojo.
The project focuses on sustainability and energy efficiency with the installation of a pellet boiler, solar thermal and photovoltaic panels, underfloor heating, and a heat-recovery ventilation system, as well as on preserving the site's natural landscape and many of the existing trees.
Key dates
The final project was approved by the Municipal Council on 25 April 2016. Works commenced on 7 November 2016, and the project was completed in late 2020.
