Overview

This garden is laid out around an unusual pergola that gives pause for reflection. At its centre are two lounge chairs where visitors can recline for a moment and observe the harmonious interplay between the structure and the surrounding vegetation.

The garden

What is unusual about the pergola is that it was designed around the concept of biomimicry, an architectural approach that is directly inspired by forms and principles specific to the living world. The framework is based on a system of reciprocal structures comprising a chestnut-wood latticework in which each strip supports the adjacent one, while at the same time being supported by the strips around it. Thus, all the strips of wood are equally important and interdependent.

The vegetation supported by the latticework structure reinforces the poetic aspect of the pergola, and evolves with it with the changing seasons. Decorative elements, such as Art Nouveau–inspired wrought-iron forms, stained glass, and roping, embellish the structure, enhancing the visual experience.

Conceived as a space that evokes a sense of wonder and tranquillity, this garden invites the visitor to pause for a moment and to observe and reconnect with the beauty and complexity of the natural world.
