Start of the 2026/2027 school year in the capital

On Tuesday, 15 September 2026, to mark the start of the 2026/2027 school year, Mayor Lydie Polfer and Paul Galles, alderman in charge of education, paid a visit to the Gare elementary school on Rue Léon Kauffman, where they met with children in Cycle 1.

In all, 5,789 children started the new year across the City's 19 elementary schools. Of those, 2,044 are enrolled in Cycle 1 (early learning and pre-school) and 3,745 in Cycles 2–4. Pupils are distributed among 403 classes staffed by 709 teachers (instituteurs brevetés and chargés de cours) and 47 educators (éducateurs diplômés).
