On Thursday, 15 January 2026, the Lions Club Luxembourg Erasmus, in collaboration with the City, held a press conference to announce the launch of the Lions Emergency Box pilot project, designed to provide better care for the elderly in a medical emergency.

5,000 boxes distributed at the Bierger-Center

The 5,000 emergency boxes will now be distributed at the city's Bierger-Center. Each box contains a multilingual medical information sheet, stickers to be displayed on the recipient's front door and refrigerator, and instructions on how to use the box. The contents give emergency services rapid access to vital information, helping to save precious minutes in emergency situations.

"When every minute counts, having the right medical information immediately on hand can save a life. This simple box can really make a difference, " explains Dr Arkadiusz Hojny, president of Lions Club Luxembourg Erasmus and project coordinator.

Corinne Cahen, Alderwoman for social affairs, is delighted with the project: "Medical history, a list of daily medication, as well as details of any intolerances or allergies, are all essential information in emergency situations, especially when the elderly are involved. By asking people to keep the box in the fridge – which is easy to locate in every home – emergency services can quickly access this vital data and provide optimum care. This initiative is therefore fully in line with the City of Luxembourg's policy on supporting elderly people.

A project supported by several players

The project, which is supported by the Ministry of Health and Social Security and the Lions Foundation Luxembourg, is based on close collaboration between the Lions Club Erasmus ASBL and the City of Luxembourg, and involves public-sector players and associations from the prevention and public safety sector.
