On Monday, 8 June 2026, the City inaugurated a new apartment building with 12 affordable housing units at 39, rue Auguste Liesch in Belair. This project reflects the City's commitment to expanding the supply of diverse and affordable rental housing in urban areas.

Designed within the framework of the "Baulücken III" competition, the project involves one of eight municipal plots earmarked for affordable housing. The dwellings will be made available partly for rent and partly for purchase through a long-term leasehold right (emphyteutic lease).

Architectural concept

The housing is located in a calm residential area of Belair, between two rows of multifamily residential buildings. So as to blend in with the surrounding buildings, the City decided to construct this new building with a similar scale to the existing ones.

The apartment building has four aboveground levels, one semi-basement level and one basement level.

It comprises 12 housing units of different sizes:

  • 7 two-bedroom apartments (net surface area: 70.05 to 75.21 m2)
  • 3 three-bedrooms apartments (surface area: 96.77 m²)
  • 1 apartment with 4 bedrooms (surface area: 112.39 m²)
  • 1 apartment with 5 bedrooms (surface area: 141.89 m²)

Of these housing units, three apartments with two bedrooms will be adapted for people with reduced mobility.
