On Monday, 14 July 2025, children residing in the Gare district, their families and local residents took part in the first edition of MEGAREfest, a block party organised by the City of Luxembourg and UP_FOUNDATION, showcasing artwork produced by children in the local community. The event was held from 16:00 to 20:00 in Place de Strasbourg and adjacent streets, which were transformed into a welcoming community space for the occasion.
A diverse range of activities
A number of local community groups provided a range of activities for children, including creative and sports workshops, short shows, readings, games, and information booths, to name but a few. The event also provided an opportunity for the City of Luxembourg's College of Aldermen to officially unveil four giant panels, which were created by children in Cycles 2 to 4 of the Gare elementary school as part of the "Kreative Schoulhaff" artwork project to decorate the fence around the schoolyard. The MEGAREfest block party was put on to symbolically mark the end of the school year with a festive event celebrating children in the local community, their creativity, and the effort they put in at school throughout the year.
The MEGARE project
The MEGAREfest festival is part of the MEGARE project, which is an initiative launched in 2024 by the City of Luxembourg and UP_FOUNDATION. It is an ambitious project that seeks to promote the positive development of children in the local community, and strengthen social cohesion by creating closer ties between families and educational and local stakeholders, in a spirit of goodwill, for the sake of children's development and well-being.
