As part of the pre-works programme to modernise and revitalise the Old Slaughterhouse, the City of Luxembourg is hosting a series of events that are open to all throughout the month of April.

11 April 2026: Repair Café

From 10:00 to 15:00 on Saturday, 11 April, Repair Café Lëtzebuerg volunteers will be on-site to repair damaged or broken items (small electrical appliances, toys, small items of furniture, etc.). Visitors, who can all bring in something for fixing (except coffee machines!) may be asked to assist the repairers, who will be more than happy to share their know-how. As an educational initiative, "Repair Cafés" seek to encourage visitors to acquire the skills to recondition household items that need minor repairs, so as to reduce waste, new purchases and, consequently, our carbon footprint.

12 April 2026: Second Chance – Flea Market

On Sunday, 12 April, between 10:00 and 17:00, the Schluechthaus will be turned into a huge second-hand market. In the building's rustic and authentic surroundings, visitors can discover unique pieces, clothing, accessories, miscellanous items and forgotten treasures in good condition, all in a charming and welcoming atmosphere. Designed to help address the environmental issues surrounding textile waste and overconsumption, this event is in keeping with a sustainable approach, encouraging a more sustainable, circular consumption model.

19 April 2026: Creative Sunday – Workshop with Irina Moons

Between 10:00 and 14:00 on Sunday, 19 April, Creative Sundays are back, with a workshop run by artist Irina Moons. Inspired by the surrealist exercise known as the Exquisite Corpse game, this group workshop lets attendees explore collective creativity, through sketching and printing. Starting from a shared foundation, everyone will design a character inspired by Luxembourg City and the spirit of the former abattoirs. The creations will then be transformed and assembled together in unexpected ways, creating surprising hybrid figures. The results will be presented as a booklet of creativity, put together on-site. Each participant will sign the collective work and go away with a unique, truly limited-edition book.

Ages 15 and over. Sign up by email, to schluechthaus@vdl.lu.
