With the aim of promoting waste sorting and making it easier for Luxembourg City residents, the kerbside collection of organic waste will be improved thanks to the municipality joining the Minett-Kompost intermunicipal syndicate.

One container for all types of organic waste

The range of materials accepted in the brown bins has been extended to include branches and woody waste, along with cuttings from bushes, hedges and shrubs. Previously, it had been largely limited to kitchen organic waste and grass clippings.

By making organic waste sorting easier, the City of Luxembourg hopes to boost public participation in the brown-bin collection, as organic waste still makes up nearly a third of mixed household municipal waste (black bins).

Other containers may no longer be used in addition to the brown bin for waste collection. Only organic waste placed in the brown bins provided by the City will be taken away as part of the weekly waste collection services.
