Unveiling of the sculpture "Le Flambeau"
On Thursday, 22 October 2026, the College of the Mayor and Aldermen officially unveiled the sculpture "Le Flambeau" near Place de l'Étoile, in the presence of its creator, Luxembourg sculptor Raymond J-M Petit.
Standing five metres tall, this bronze sculpture pays tribute to the Luxembourg Resistance during the Second World War and to the women and men who fought for Luxembourg's liberation and opposed Nazi ideology. The commemorative sculpture has been temporarily installed on the site of the former family home of Resistance fighter Raymond Petit, the sculptor's uncle, who died for his country on 21 April 1942 in Berdorf during a gunfight with the Gestapo.
A permanent location for the sculpture will be determined as part of the redevelopment of the public spaces covered by the Place de l'Étoile special development plan (PAP).
