The City is continuing its efforts to upgrade the city centre by enhancing the pedestrian character of Rue Beaumont and part of Rue des Capucins, which have been classified as pedestrian zones since 2021. To achieve this, the roadway will be raised to match the pavement, creating a single, continuous surface that improves pedestrian comfort, fosters a more welcoming street environment, and increases the appeal of nearby businesses In addition, the stormwater drainage system will be adapted by moving the downspouts to the center of the roadway.

These roadworks will be carried out in two successive phases, lasting a total of around two months:

  • Phase 1 will begin on 16 February 2026, and will affect Rue des Capucins (section between Place des Bains and Rue Beaumont) and Rue Beaumont up to no. 11.
  • Phase 2 will begin in mid-March and will cover the remaining section of Rue Beaumont (between no. 11 and Avenue de la Porte-Neuve).

Once the roadworks are completed, a final layer of asphalt will be applied across the entire surface to ensure a uniform finish. Throughout these roadworks, the pavements, buildings and businesses will remain accessible to pedestrians. Only a few isolated areas may be temporarily impacted. Deliveries to shops and businesses will continue to be possible.

These works are part of the City's ongoing efforts to improve the quality of public spaces in the city centre. These include transforming Rue Beaumont into a pedestrian zone, converting Rue du Fossé into a pedestrian-priority zone and then into a pedestrian zone, and the creation of a pedestrian zone open to cyclists on Rue Aldringen.
