On Tuesday, 8 July 2025, the City officially opened the new Makerspace, a pioneering digital space at the Technolink Centre in Cents, for children attending City of Luxembourg elementary schools.
A laboratory dedicated to creation and innovation
Designed as a laboratory dedicated to creation and innovation, the Makerspace provides children in Cycles 1 to 4 with a chance to learn about cutting-edge technologies, such as 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics and programming. The modern facility has everything children need to undertake their own projects from start to finish – from the initial design phase using digital tools, all the way through to producing the physical object – while at the same time fostering teamwork and a desire to experiment and explore new digital skills. Educational activities are supervised by the schools' educational staff, who are assisted by teachers who specialise in digital skills. With the staff's guidance and support, children are encouraged to learn by trial and error, tinker and give their imaginations free rein in a safe, stimulating environment.
The Makerspace is open to City of Luxembourg elementary schoolchildren from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 to 16:30. The Makerspace can only be booked and used by City of Luxembourg elementary schools' educational staff, IT supervisors, teachers specialising in digital skills, and trained employees from the City's Service Enseignement (Education Department). The Technolink Centre – a department of the City's Service Enseignement – handles the technical management, bookings, the provision of equipment, support, and any necessary technical assistance.
This initiative embodies the City of Luxembourg's commitment to incorporating digital education in elementary schools. In introducing pupils to new technologies and digital creation tools, the City aims to spark children's curiosity and creativity, while promoting the development of key skills required to navigate the technologies of tomorrow.
