12 cellists gathered on one stage may strike you as the perfect recipe for a dull evening, but wait until you hear the Berliner Philharmoniker’s cello section, which, ever since the ensemble was founded in 1972 as an offshoot of the famous orchestra, has been moving with virtuosity from jazz to tango, and from French chanson to film music.
