Born in in Heldrungen Castle, Peter Ernest von Mansfeld (1517–1604) left an indelible mark on the history of the country. He led eventful life, from his appointment as governor of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg and the County of Chiny to the construction of his "LaFontaine" castle in Clausen.

The site of the old "La Fontaine" castle has an equally fascinating history, having been repurposed and given new life various times over the centuries.
