The City congratulates Ruben Querinjean on his sporting success
The College of the Mayor and Aldermen welcomed athlete Ruben Querinjean to City Hall to congratulate him on his recent sporting success.
Born in Malmedy, in Belgium's Liège Province, in December 2001, Ruben Querinjean is a member of CSL Athlectis Luxembourg, an athletics club based in the capital. He is also part of the Elite Squad of Team Lëtzebuerg, Luxembourg's national team, and represents the Grand Duchy in international competitions.
As a CSL Athletics Luxembourg athlete, Ruben Querinjean has recently delivered several outstanding performances that rank among the most notable in recent Luxembourg athletics history. These include winning silver in the 3,000-metre steeplechase at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, held from 10 to 16 August 2026; setting a new national mile record at the Lëtz Mile race on Avenue de la Liberté in Luxembourg City on 12 September 2026; and winning bronze at the World Road Running Championships in Copenhagen on 19 September 2026. This impressive achievements are the culmination of years of hard work and further cements his place among Europe's leading.
During the reception, the members of the College of the Mayor and Aldermen congratulated him on this remarkable achievement and wished him every success in the competitions ahead, particularly in his bid to qualify for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing.
