Overview

Changes to the AVL bus network will come into effect on Sunday, 12 April 2026 to optimise the mobility service on offer, strengthen connections between neighbourhoods and improve service quality.

Following an extensive analysis of actual journey times, updated schedules will be introduced across the entire AVL network, applying as of 12 April 2026. Passengers are invited to consult the updated timetables on bus.vdl.lu, in the cityapp – VDL and at bus stops.

As there may be schedule changes for certain bus stops, users are asked to check the new timetables, which are displayed at these bus stops, online at bus.vdl.lu and in the cityapp - VDL.

Paper schedules for all bus lines are also available from the Infobus point (Place d'Armes, Cercle Cité building, corner of Rue Genistre).

Overview of the changes

  • AVL line 19 extended towards Strassen
  • AVL line 31 discontinued
  • Route of AVL line 20 changed
  • Routes of AVL lines 5, 24 and 29 streamlined

AVL line 19

The line 19 route will be extended from Limpertsberg to "Strassen, Oricher-Hoehl" (currently the final stop of line 31) via Reckenthal. As part of these changes, the "Neumans Park" and "Lefèvre" stops will be replaced by a new "Lefèvre" stop on Rue de la Faïencerie, near the intersection with Rue Tony Neuman.

As part of this initiative, a section of the line 31 route will be incorporated into line 19, streamlining and optimising the existing service. As a result of this change, line 31, which has hitherto been operating between "Badanstalt" and "Strassen, Oricher-Hoehl", will be discontinued.

With this incorporation:

  • buses to Reckenthal will now run every 30 minutes, rather than every 60 minutes,
  • new direct connections will be created between Reckenthal and Limpertsberg, and between Reckenthal and Luxembourg Central Station,
  • line 19 will have a more coherent and appealing route, and its overall performance will improve.

AVL line 20

The changes to the line 20 route aim to make this line more attractive and to better meet customers' needs. The changes will facilitate new direct connections between Bonnevoie and Merl and an easier connection between Luxembourg Central Station and Avenue du Dix-Septembre / Boulevard Pierre Dupong.

The line will be extended via Rue de Hollerich, Boulevard Pierre Dupong, Avenue du Dix-Septembre, Rue de la Barrière and Rue de Merl, with its final stop at "Marcel Cahen".

Buses will run every 20 minutes throughout the day. Buses will continue to call at Parc Luxite only during rush hour. At all other times, buses will terminate at P+R Stade de Luxembourg.

AVL lines 5, 24 and 29

The opening of the new bridge connecting Boulevard des Scillas to the Howald transport hub will help improve and streamline the routes:

  • Line 5 will now travel over the bridge in both directions. This will shorten its journey.
  • Line 24 will also use this new direct route, saving users time.
  • Line 29 will continue to run via CR231, calling at "Howald, Op der Stirzel (Quai 1 and 2)", and will then take the bridge travelling towards "Hesperange, Cité Um Schlass".

Lines 5, 24 and 29 will no longer call at the "Howald, Ronnebësch" stop.
