Tiny Forest
On Friday, 14 November 2025, the City of Luxembourg underscored its ongoing commitment to protecting the climate and nature by planting its third tiny forest. This one is located on a plot of land adjoining the Neudorf cemetery. This initiative was made possible thanks to the participation of numerous volunteer City staff members, who lent a hand to the Service Cimetières (Cemeteries Department), Service Parcs (Parks Department) and the team of the Environmental Officer. Together, they planted some 600 trees and shrubs over an area of 200 m², creating another island of greenery in the city.
In response to the climate emergency, and to honour its commitments as set out in the College of Aldermen's 2023–2029 mission statement, the City of Luxembourg has made nature protection a top priority. To this end, the City is committed to planting 30,000 new trees in the capital by 2030, in partnership with residents, businesses and government agencies. The planting of tiny forests in each of the city's neighborhoods is part of this project. Beyond protecting nature and enriching biodiversity, these micro-forests foster a renewed bond with the natural world, enhance public spaces, improve air quality, store CO₂, and help cool the city in summer through shade and added humidity.
While two of these tiny forests were recently planted in Limpertsberg and Weimerskirch with the help of schoolchildren, this time it was the staff of the municipal administration who got their hands dirty.
