Overview

A "third place" is a space where local residents can develop their own projects and initiatives aimed at improving community life. To accommodate this variety of uses, a "third place" will ideally be located in the heart of a neighbourhood, in multi-purpose premises suitable for a range of activities. Extended opening hours make it ideal for users from a broad range of socio-professional backgrounds, and the presence of outreach specialists in charge of organising activities and supporting citizens in the development of their projects is of great added value.

A space for all

Drawing on its experience in community and social work, Inter-Actions a.s.b.l. ensures that the premises are used to promote intercultural social cohesion, neighbourliness and healthy community dynamics. The aim is to create a place which is open to all, where people can meet, chat, exchange ideas, get information, take part in activities, get help with administrative procedures and social programmes, or simply forge social ties and friendships.

Activities

The regular and special activities on offer serve the needs of local residents, and are chosen by Inter-Actions' team of supervisors, in consultation with residents or in collaboration with external associations or contributors.

  • Daily activities: "La tasse du quartier" (Morning cuppa), every morning from 10:00.

  • Weekly activities: "Alors on danse?" (Shall we dance?), "La ludothèque" (Games Library), and "L'atelier des sages" (Elder Meet-Ups).

  • Monthly activities: "Le café des mamans" (Mums' Meetups), and "English Book Club".

  • Occasional activities: e.g. "L'atelier crochet" (Crochet workshop, 10 September 2025), and "Swing danse" (Swing Dancing, 26 September 2025).

Socio-demographic context

Setting up a "third place" makes perfect sense in Luxembourg's highly diverse socio-demographic context. The capital's immensely diverse cultural melting pot poses many challenges in terms of integration and living together. The city is expanding its range of initiatives aimed at promoting integration and strengthen social ties, by providing citizens with a space where they can meet, chat and exchange ideas, and get involved.
