The City is urging residents to exercise extra caution when walking in the capital's green spaces.

High temperatures such as we have been experiencing for the past several weeks, combined with drought, weaken trees. Even trees that look healthy can pose a risk, and branches or trunks can fall.

The City recommends that when visiting the municipal parks and forests, you remain highly vigilant when walking in wooded areas. Try to stay in open spaces and stick to marked paths and trails. Do not stay under old trees for too long.

If you see a downed tree or fallen large branches, you should get clear of the area immediately, because other material could also fall.

This phenomenon, known as "self-pruning", is a defense mechanism some trees employ to cope with water stress. During droughts, they may naturally shed some of their branches to reduce their water consumption and limit the risk of drying out.
