This year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of national poet Edmond de la Fontaine – more widely known as Dicks – as well as the 125th anniversary of the death of Jean-Antoine Zinnen, the composer of Luxembourg's national anthem and former director of the Luxembourg City Conservatoire and the Philharmonic Society. To mark these events, the latest edition of "ons stad" features several articles that explore various aspects of Luxembourg City's musical heritage.

You can find out more about how concert halls in the city have evolved over time, the Philharmonie's small private concert rooms, the former "Quatsch" at the Merl Conservatory in Rue du Saint-Esprit, and the origins of the city's various orchestras, music societies and the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra's military band. Lovers not only of classical music but also of rock and jazz are in for a real treat.

In addition to photographs produced specially for ons stad by several contemporary photographers, this edition features a selection of documents and historical photographs from the collections housed at the Luxembourg City Photothèque and the Luxembourg City Archives, accompanied by our authors' insightful contributions.
