Join us for the public launch of The Bank, the first phase of a new long-term project by the artistcollective SUPERFLEX at Mudam.

The event will begin with an introduction by Bjørnstjerne Christiansen, founding member of SUPERFLEX, who will present The Bank alongside a selection of the collective’s projects in public space, offering insight into their approach to participation, play and dialogue across generations. The presentation will be followed by a collective activation of the outdoor workshop “Architects of the Future”, where participants are invited to take part directly and lay down the first bricks of a shared ‘city of banks’ – each holding something of value for the future.

.

Mudam is delighted to collaborate with SUPERFLEX on this project, which will lead to the creation of a permanent artwork in Park Dräi Eechelen. Conceived as an open and evolving process, it seeks to strengthen the relationship between the museum visitors, its neighbours and all those who engage with its surrounding environment, transforming the park into a space shaped collectively over time.

With The Bank, SUPERFLEX approaches museums as ‘banks of culture’ that both preserve and create value. They invite Mudam’s audiences to deconstruct the museum’s architecture and playfully rebuild their own ‘bank’ from it. ‘There are many kinds of banks – financial banks, bloodbanks, seed banks, food banks, and more. Each of these keeps something of value safe. Imagine that you are designing a new bank. What would it store for the future? What would it look like?’ askSUPERFLEX.

Be part of the collective contributions that will inspire SUPERFLEX’s proposal for a permanentartwork in Park Dräi Eechelen: an intergenerational place to gather, exchange, play and rest.SUPERFLEX: The Bank is organised with the support of the PwC Foundation Luxembourg, underthe aegis of the Fondation de Luxembourg.

Biography:

SUPERFLEX was founded in 1993 by Jakob Fenger, Bjørnstjerne Christiansen and Rasmus Rosengren Nielsen. Conceived as an expanded collective, SUPERFLEX has consistently worked with a wide variety of collaborators, from gardeners to engineers to audience members. Engaging with alternative models for the creation of social and economic organisation, works have taken the form of energy systems, beverages, sculptures, copies, hypnosis sessions, infrastructure, paintings, plant nurseries, contracts and public spaces. Working in and outside the physical location of the exhibition space, SUPERFLEX has been engaged in major public space projects since their award-winning Superkilen opened in 2012. These projects often involve participation, involving the input of local communities, specialists and children. Taking the idea of collaboration even further, recent works have involved soliciting the participation of other species. SUPERFLEX has been developing a new kind of urbanism that includes the perspectives of plants and animals, aiming to move society towards interspecies living. For SUPERFLEX, the best idea might come from a fish.
