Cuban rumba workshop with Gissel Ortiz 6 December 2025
Immerse yourself in Cuban culture at a unique event hosted by Gissel Ortiz, a dancer and teacher trained at the prestigious Escuela Nacional de Arte in Havana and a dancer with the Conjunto Folklórico Nacional de Cuba.
This exceptional workshop is a rare opportunity to discover or deepen your knowledge of Cuban rumba in a warm, rhythmic and friendly atmosphere, carried by the energy and passion of an exceptional artist.
Programme for the day:
11 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Physical preparation for dance;
12 p.m. – 1 p.m.: Columbia (open to all);
.1pm – 2.30pm: Friendly break and shared meal. Bring your simple, tasty dishes for a moment of exchange and sharing.
2.30pm – 3.30pm: Rumba Guaguancó;
3.30pm – 4.30pm: Salsa con Rumba.
A day filled with joy, music and passion for Cuba.
Musicians are also invited to participate, whether to play, dance or simply enjoy the festive atmosphere.
About Gissel Ortiz:
Originally from Havana, Gissel is a dancer and teacher of Cuban dance with a remarkable career.
.Trained at the Escuela Nacional de Arte (ENA), she studied modern dance and Cuban folklore before joining the Conjunto Folklórico Nacional de Cuba, an iconic company dedicated to preserving Afro-Cuban traditions.
Her teaching combines authenticity, rigour and sensitivity, conveying all the cultural and spiritual richness of Afro-Cuban dances such as Rumba.
Now based in Paris, she teaches at the Cuba Y Salsa association, where she actively contributes to the dissemination of Cuban culture in France through classes, workshops and festive evenings.
