Description

The concession was granted in 1896, and the headstone erected that same year. The concession was granted to house the remains of Marie Wagner (1895-1896) and Henri Wagner (1899-1899), who were the children of Adam Wagner (28/01/1855-21/03/1905), a brewer in Clausen, and Marguerite van der Vekene (1858-15/03/1934). Their daughter Catherine Wagner (25/02/1902-01/01/1909) – who was also known as Nini – was also laid to rest in the plot. Several members of the family lost their lives in the typhus outbreak in Clausen. Of Adam Wagner and Marguerite Wagner-van der Vekene's six children, four are buried in this plot. As his end drew near, Adam Wagner converted from Protestantism to Catholicism. This could account for the choice of the cross, which bears the image of the Virgin Mary. In the Protestant religion, the Mother of God has a lesser role. François Wagner was Adam Wagner's brother, and worked on the railway in Pulvermuhl.
