In 2014, a photo caused an uproar online: a selfie posted on social media showed a young girl smiling for the camera at Auschwitz.Who is Michelle? Or rather, who is uneviedechat? Is she a carefree teenager or a badly behaved one? Did she fulfil her duty to remember by taking this selfie? Or did she sully the past by posing in front of the remains of the Holocaust? Opinions differ on social media, comments fly, and Michelle becomes a virtual prisoner of cruel digital harassment.
In this ensemble piece inspired by a real-life news story, Sylvain Levey allows us to form our own opinions about the society of appearances we have created. Thanks to a dramaturgy that plays on the immediacy of the internet, he reveals the mechanisms of virtual frenzy bordering on harassment.
