Opening of the exhibition "The shoe as subject and object of art" at the "Tunnel am Gronn"
On Thursday, 30 April 2026, the City unveiled the new "Shoes as Subjects and Objects of Art" exhibition, created by students in the art section at the Lycée Athénée de Luxembourg and organised by the Creative Learning Centre of the Service Foyers scolaires.
An everyday object, the shoe is also a richly meaningful artistic motif, at the crossroads of art, history and fashion. Titled "The shoe as subject and object of art", the exhibition showcases works by students from the Athénée's art section, who were invited to design and creates prototype of original shoe concepts.
After an introduction to the history of footwear and some iconic works – from Magritte to contemporary fashion designers – they developed their own designs using sketches, 3D models, and a range of materials. The process continued with the creation of watercolour drawings, allowing for a precise analysis of form, proportion, and detail.
The exhibition "The shoe as subject and object of art", which will be on view until October 2026 at "Tunnel am Gronn" (passage leading to the elevetor connecting the Grund district and Ville Haute) highlights the students' creativity, artistic insight and technical skill, and invites the public to take a fresh look at a familiar object transformed into a work of art.
