As part of the call for projects "reNature – restaurer la biodiversité" (ReNature: Restoring Biodiversity), issued by the Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte, the Oekozenter Pafendall, in partnership with the City of Luxembourg authorities, has launched the project "Nous végétalisons nos façades" (We Are Greening Our Facades).
The aim of this initiative is to raise public awareness about the ecological potential of covering facades in greenery, and to promote the use of the technique. Green facades contribute greatly to urban biodiversity: they provide essential habitats for birds and for insects such as bees and butterflies, enhance the local microclimate, reduce air pollution and improve quality of life. In addition, they enhance the attractiveness of the urban environment, whilst also helping reduce the buildings' energy consumption.
Against this backdrop, two workshops will be run:
-
Saturday, 31 May 2025, 10:00–12:00
Where: Theoretical session dispensed at the LUGA Lab; practical session takes place at 7, rue Mohrfels
Language: Luxembourgish (interpreting into French available) -
Sunday, 21 September 2025, 10:00–12:00
Where: Theoretical session dispensed at the Oekozenter Pafendall; practical section takes places at 5, rue Mohrfels
Language: English
These free workshops, each of which caters to a maximum of 30 people, are designed to provide concrete advice on how to choose native climbing plants, how to maintain the green facades, and raise awareness about the benefits of greening for the urban environment. At the end of each session, participants can take home a free plant, provided by the City.
