These rocky gorges were an ideal protective wall for the higher areas of the upper town. However, the supply of drinking water was problematic here, as it had to be laboriously transported up from the lower town.
In the lower part of the city, where access to water was easier, water-dependent craft businesses such as breweries and laundries developed.
Quiz questions and research tasks have been set up on a hiking trail along the rivers and invite visitors to explore the role of water - both as a source of life and as a destructive force.
