Annual grand exhibition
In addition to its special exhibitions, the Photothèque also hosts its annual grand exhibition which, each year, focuses on different themes. The grand exhibition is hosted at the Ratskeller in the Cercle Cité (Rue du Curé entrance) from mid-July to early September.
"Luxembourg 360° – la capitale à travers des collections photographiques inédites"
The Luxembourg City Photothèque archives comprise more than 8 million images. The 93 pictures in the exhibition include photos from small collections by renowned photographers, photos by amateur photographers and photos from the private collections of photography enthusiasts. Although small in size, these collections are far from insignificant. They feature a number of photographic treasures that significantly enhance the artistic and documentary value of the Photothèque archives.
In this exhibition, the Photothèque presents a number of photographs from these collections that have never been seen before by the public. In doing so, it seeks to offer new perspectives on the evolution of the city and urban life, but above all, to show its appreciation to the many collectors and contributors who have entrusted the Photothèque with their treasures over the years. Their images form the core of this exhibition, which spans several city districts and several decades, depicting events, city scenes and remarkable people.
