Description
This monument commemorates the history of a prominent family of industrialists and merchants from Luxembourg City, and houses the remains of the artist Gérarde Konsbruck.
The concession was granted upon the death of François-Pierre (1839-1909), a merchant and mechanic who was also known as Prosper Nouveau. The company founded by Prosper, "Nouveau-Neuberg" specialised in the sale of distillery equipment, kettles, pumps, sheet metal, and piping. In 1887, the establishment was awarded a medal by the "Cercle agricole et horticole du Luxembourg" (Luxembourg Agricultural and Horticultural Association). "Nouveau-Neuberg" laid several sections of Luxembourg City's water mains. In 1904, the company extended its range to include equipment for electrical installations (notably lighting) and heating, sanitation, and telephone installations.Prosper Nouveau was an active member of the Luxemburger Handels-Und Gewerbe. Upon his death, his widow Helène Neuberg (1849-1921) took over the business with her son Pierre (1884-1932), who ran the company for several years.Pierre's wife was Julie Weber (1892-1932). The "Nouveau-Neuberg" business, which was located in Avenue Monterey, was liquidated in 1911. Prosper Nouveau was the father of Joseph Nouveau (1883-1947), the architect to the Grand Ducal Court. The third son Paul (1892-1966), who is buried in the family plot, ran a haberdashery and hosiery business, which sold socks, lace, and wool, first in Luxembourg and later in Bettembourg. In 1935, he expanded the business to include bicycles and cars. The daughter of the Nouveau-Neuberg couple, Françoise Laure Nouveau (1887-1978), ran a knitting-wool and yarn business in Marché-aux-Herbes. She is buried in the family plot. The second daughter, Marie-Madeleine (1891-1973), married Jean-Pierre Konsbruck (1882-1944): a customs inspector. Gérarde Anne-Marie Madeleine Konsbruck (1929-2004) was their daughter. Gérarde Konsbruck was an artist. Her works were put up for sale 27 times at public auctions, and displayed at group exhibitions at the Mondorf-les-Bains park and at the Cercle Artistique du Luxembourg. Her body of work includes drawings, engravings, and watercolour paintings. She was an exhibitor at the "Solidarietà" exhibition in Modena in 1995.
