An artist portfolio is a way of presenting your practice, communicating your ideas and helping others understand what makes your work distinctive. But what makes a portfolio effective, and how can it be adapted for different purposes and audiences?
This workshop explores how to edit and structure a professional artist portfolio for exhibitions, open calls, residencies and grants. It covers the key elements of a portfolio, from selecting and sequencing works to visual coherence, written content and documentation, with considerations for photographers, painters, sculptors and multidisciplinary artists. Participants will explore how the requirements of different opportunities can inform their portfolio choices.
Through practical examples and exercises, participants will learn to assess their portfolios critically, recognise their strengths and identify areas for improvement. The aim is to help artists develop the confidence and skills to refine their portfolios independently, communicate their practice more effectively and identify new opportunities to move it forward.
