SoMaTo

So Ma To is the Japanese name for an antique revolving lantern. Symbolically, the term refers to the experience of seeing one's entire life flash before one's eyes at the moment of death. This dual meaning forms the basis of a performance about the reconstruction of memory and the re-emergence of the past through the haze of time.

Two elderly women recount the stories of their lives, revealing fragments of memories that gradually resurface and intertwine. Inspired by the enchanting world of Hayao Miyazaki's films, the performance explores the power of memory and its intimate connection to our inner lives.
