The City Bibliothèque will be temporarily closed from 4 to 18 May 2026 to allow for renovation work. It will reopen on 19 May. These are part of a broader modernisation effort to make the space more functional, accessible, and contemporary, while also optimising visitor reception and overall experience.

Introduction of a self-checkout system

In the building's entrance hall, a new brochure stand will bring together all key information about the library and other municipal services in one convenient place. A returns box will be installed to allow for returns outside of opening hours. There will also be a small waiting area to make visitors feel more comfortable, while planters will add a warmer, more welcoming touch.

The library's accessibility will also be improved. The circulation desk will be redesigned to better accommodate people with reduced mobility, and an improved layout will help things run more smoothly.

As part of this broader modernisation effort, initial refurbishment work will be carried out so that a self-checkout system can be introduced for users in the coming months. This will let readers check out items on their own and help cut down on wait times.

Redesign of the reading and study areas

The reading and study spaces will also be significantly upgraded. The armchairs in the periodicals area will be replaced, and the workstations reorganised to better support both individual and group work. An acoustic booth will also be installed, which will allow for collaborative work while still ensuring a quiet environment for other users.

By the start of the next school year, the terrace will be turned into a proper outdoor library space. It will feature, among other things, seating designed for reading, improved lighting, and new plants, creating a green, pleasant, and welcoming environment.

Practical information

Borrowed items due for return during this period will be automatically extended until the library reopens on 19 May 2026.
