Ever heard of the cimbalom before? Imagine removing the lid from a grand piano and you’re left with a type of dulcimer: a cast iron frame with a wooden exterior, and a host of strings to be played with small hammers. Originating from Hungary, the cimbalom looks just like that and will mesmerise you with its soothing, exotic tones on 12.11. Young Áron Horváth rose to fame at the even younger age of 12 and has planned an exciting programme to showcase his instrument, including works by fellow Hungarian natives and commissions by two esteemed female contemporary composers.
