At the Luxembourg Sustainability Forum on 25 November 2025, the City and IMS Luxembourg launched the ecological initiative Trees in the City – Business in Action, which is a project aimed at boosting the capital's tree canopy and championing a greener, more vibrant urban environment.

A green initiative for all entities with a base in Luxembourg City

This eco-friendly initiative seeks to help all entities (businesses, public institutions, associations, etc.) with a base in Luxembourg City who wish to bring more trees – and more life – to their own properties. To this end, the City is providing businesses with a catalogue of species that are adapted to the local climate and have high ecological value. This list was drawn up by the City's environmental officer.

Companies can order trees from this catalogue free of charge, while the planting and long-term maintenance of these trees remain their responsibility. Once an order is submitted, the City of Luxembourg's Service Parcs (Parks Department) will check that the species chosen are suited to the company's planting project.

Entities that do not have a plot of land to plant their own trees on can still get involved by volunteering for one of the planting projects organised by the City of Luxembourg. In addition, consultancies with the necessary knowledge of planting and biodiversity can apply to be approved as partner consultants for the Trees in the City – Business in Action initiative. Seven IMS Luxembourg member organisations have already declared their support for this project, and will shortly be planting a total of 149 trees on their respective sites.

30,000 trees by 2030

This project is part of the City's efforts to plant 30,000 new trees across the Luxembourg City by 2030, in partnership with residents, businesses and government agencies. This initiative strongly supports the City's climate and environmental goals by enhancing natural space, boostingquality of life and helping Luxembourg adapt to a changing climate.

Businesses wishing to take part in the project can sign up with IMS Luxembourg (caroline.pultz@imslux.lu).
