Sportleréierung: the City honours its top athletes
On Friday, 28 November 2025, the college of the mayor and aldermen honoured athletes and sports teams for their achievements in 2024/2025, along with members who have held active leadership roles in a Luxembourg City sports club for more than 20 years.
During this 40th Sportleréierung, 90 individual athletes and 25 teams – a total of 363 people – received certificates for their performances during the 2024/2025 season (national champion or winner of the national cup, in the "junior" and "senior" categories).
The winners hailed from 27 clubs devoted to 21 different sporting disciplines: archery, athletics, aviation, beach volley ball, billiards, capoeira, curling, cycling, figure skating, ice dancing, ice hockey, ice pétanque, climbing, taekwondo, tennis, Schutzhund, alpine skiing, sports shooting, stock car racing, swimming, and weightlifting. Luxembourg City has more than 190 sports clubs that offer activities in over 42 sporting disciplines.
In addition, 12 members with leadership roles in 7 different Luxembourg City sports associations were honoured for their work as managers and administrators for over 20 years.
The Luxembourg Jazz Combo provided musical accompaniment during the official ceremony.
